The Next Right Step

Here’s a thought I’d like to share…

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. ~Lao Tzu

Sometimes, you’re taking steps toward something that, until you’re there, you didn’t realize it was where you were going.

Back in 2012, David and I developed the program “C.A.L.M. (Creating Awareness – Living Mindfully).” Since that time, we have infused everything we do, our therapy practices, our workshops and retreats, our yoga classes, our yoga teacher trainings, and even the name of our office (we’re now “The Center for CALM Living) with the principles of C.A.L.M.

To create awareness and to live mindfully are the intentions with which we want to work and to live. And operating with these intentions on a daily basis has created ripple effects, and has prompted us to take many steps. Our latest step is super exciting for us, but is, by no means, ours alone!

Starting with our upcoming class of 2017, our Yoga Teacher Trainings will be through the Kantra CALM School of  Yoga — a nationally registered Yoga Alliance school. This school exists because of the amazing, dedicated, and inspiring teachers that have come through our Teacher Trainings over the past four years. They created the energy and enthusiasm that has manifested as Kantra CALM Yoga School.

David and I originally started teaching Yoga Teacher Trainings (YTT) because we had some students that wanted to experience the transformative effects that he and I had experienced during our own years of training. Under the mentorship of Rolf Gates, our friend, and teacher, we led our first training in 2013. Since then, we have continued to evolve our trainings. This past August, we watched in awe as our Advanced Yoga Teacher Trainees hosted, as their graduation project, the inaugural “Heartlight Celebration” – an event that touched the lives of many and raised over $11,000 for charity.

We were moved beyond words — and into action.

Lessons present themselves in all sorts of ways and the lessons that culminated in that graduation weekend gave us just the push we needed to make the bold step that was in front of us.  And for that we are grateful. Creating Kantra CALM Yoga School was the next right step for our students and for us as teachers, and seeing that through to fruition has been (and will continue to be) an incredible journey.

So, as it is said, life is a journey, not a destination, and a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Through the journey of teaching Yoga Teacher Trainings, we have learned that taking the next right step is as important for us to DO as it is for us to teach! If we get too hung up on what the destination is supposed to look like, we might miss the steps we are supposed to take. We must stay open so that the journey itself reveals the next right step. And though we are sure there are many more lessons for us, we have learned, without a shadow of a doubt, that as long as we “show up” and take the next right step – the destination will take care of itself.

Wishing you the next right step – every step of the way,

Namasté Augusta
